Drawing at the Cathedral at Canterbury Cathedral

Tuesday mornings at 10.30 -12.30 for 8 weeks - book now!

The Drawing at the Cathedral course attracts all levels of artists. Beginners come to receive a grounding in drawing and practicing artists for a new perspective, to find new subject matter and to reflect on their work.

All the participants are surprised and delighted at what they find in the Cathedral, and with what they produce (including the beginners!) and everyone takes away with them a body of work having considered a range of techniques, subjects and artists, and having had the challenge, fun and benefits of the group environment.

Private art classes available

Private art sessions are available solo, or team up with a friend or a couple of friends in your own home, your favorite landscape spot, the Cathedral ... I am open to suggestions - children are welcome.

Example of a private art class:

At the moment I am taking a very successful class for one hour a week with a mum, her 8 year old daughter and a friend of the mum’s.

Exhibition in USA

I am just back from a trip to Chicago where I put up my first show in the USA, which is running from end of October through to the beginning of January next year.

This is a body of work I have made in the UK landscape over the last 12 years.

"Trees of Life"

"For me a tree exists in two simultaneous dimensions – the physical observable world and the inner world of the imagination.  When I am painting in the landscape, I am trying to capture both of these aspects together on the canvas…

When I look at a tree, I see both the outward form of the tree itself, but also traveling from the roots in the ground up to the branches which stretch up into the sky, the imaginative and spiritual essence of the tree."

One of my etchings has been included in an international collection of erotic art in Sophia, Bulgaria.

Commissions Undertaken

As an artist with a background in set building, props and costume I am well set up for commissions of all kinds that require an artistic hand and eye.

I have just produced a one-off silver plated trophy (see pic on left) sponsored by Vattenfall for the Whitstable Yacht Club Forts Race.

I am excited about collaborating with Helene Williams as a Wickermaker in her next piece ‘The Gateway Between Two Worlds’

She has a fascinating website which shows the last piece I was involved in: “Milking the Coast’

I am also talking to a client about producing a couple of architectural stained glass windows in December and at the same time seeking the next ecclesiastical glass project so please tell your vicar, church warden and architectural glass friends!

For examples of my previous work in this area, you can see the 12m acid etched glass screen I made in the narthex of St. Alphege Church, High Street, Whitstable, CT5 1AY.

It is open 9am - 12pm everyday of the week.

If you would like to meet me at St Alphege Church to see the etchings, please click here to get in touch.
